Family History
Jens Bakken, the youngest of Hanna and Nils Bakken's children, took over Dalebakken Farm and Mill in 1905. Jens married Marie Døsvik in 1903, and they got 14 children: Bjørg, Hulda, Nils, Jenny, Mary, Johan, Gunvor, Per, Anton, Jens, Åsta, John, Johanna and Åsmund. Jens and Marie were the owners of the farm until 1946, when their son, Johan (b.1908), took over.
Jens Bakken's older brother, Johan (John) Nilsen Bakken, had married Anna Gurine Larsdtr from Lysøya in 1897. They had 4 children when John emigrated to Minneapolis, USA, in 1902. John also had another son, Olaf, who lived with foster parents in Døsvik, Ørland.
In 1904 Anna Gurine followed her husband to America with their 3 sons, Nils, Johan (John) and Lars, while their eldest daughter, Dagny Bakken, stayed behind in the care of her aunt, Johanna Bakken Eidsaunet. Anna Gurine and John were blessed with 7 more children after they came to America: Frieda, Hilda, Harold, Helen, Harold Arthur, Anton and Hazel. Dagny and Olaf, however, never joined their family in America. They spent their lives in Norway, and they both have many descendants here.
